Bilingual Stories Bookshelf

Since 2022, we have been working diligently with Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University, spearheading a bilingual stories initiative, underpinned by the Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project. The primary objective of the REAL Project is to facilitate access to multilingual education for infants and toddlers, aged between birth to 3 years old, who are deaf or hard of hearing. This initiative specifically targets deaf children and their families, with the mission of laying a robust foundation in both American Sign Language and English, thereby ensuring these children are adequately prepared to commence their formal education.

Our goal was to not only translate currently published books, with consideration to its cultural origins, but to also discover deaf illustrators to create original board books. We have published one series so far, and have a second one coming!

Late in 2024, we finally launched the Bilingual Stories Bookshelf! Available both on iOS App Store and Android Google Play, this app comes with several stories to begin with. If you or somebody you know has a deaf baby, share this app with them!
